Attorney Luis Lucero was appointed as the new Secretary of Mining

The government confirmed on Monday that lawyer Luis Lucero was appointed by the Ministry of Economy as the new secretary of mining, replacing Flavia Royón, who was dismissed several weeks ago. The new secretary is a lawyer graduated from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) “specialized in the mining industry, in natural resources law and with extensive experience in project financing, corporate matters, and in arbitration and complex litigation,” government sources said. The portfolio had become headless on February 10, when Flavia Royón from Salta resigned from the post. Royón was the only high-ranking official in Sergio Massa’s team who had remained in the portfolio with the arrival of Javier Milei’s government. During Massa’s term, Royón had served as energy secretary and moved to the mining area in December. However, he was one of the two officials whom Milei displaced due to the failure of the Law of Bases in Congress.
According to the Ministry of Economy, Lucero received a law degree from the University of Buenos Aires, in addition to a postgraduate degree in Business Law from the Universidad Argentina de la Empresa (UADE), and then several specialization courses and seminars, highlighting those carried out on issues of government policy and corporate strategy in mining at the University of Dundee.He also took courses in negotiation at Harvard Law School; in fundamentals of organizational sciences at both Columbia Business School and the University of Cambridge.Former partner of the law firm Marval O’Farrell Mairal and, previously, important law firms in the country, he also served as a consultant in foreign law at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman in the United States and has held positions on the board of directors and supervisory committees of various mining companies, gas distributors, industrial and financial.
