ATE denounced more than 10,000 state layoffs and confirmed the strike

Through the statements of its leaders, the Association of State Workers (ATE) denounced more than 10,000 layoffs in the State and confirmed the strike on April 3 in protest of the “threat” of dismissals to 70,000 public employees. Last Tuesday, President Javier Milei announced a cut of 70,000 public administration positions, a situation that generated wide repercussions from different sectors of the political arc. From his place, the head of ATE in Buenos Aires, Daniel Catalano, denounced a “lack of criteria” in the 10,000 layoffs that took place in recent days. We’ve had a little more than 10,000 layoffs. It is very likely that what Milei said about the 15,000 layoffs may be true. Maybe a little more or less. Unfortunately we are in that number with colleagues who are more than 20 years old. We didn’t find criteria to be able to dismiss,” he said. A day after the government’s announcement last Tuesday, ATE sent a letter to the Minister of Human Capital, Sandra Pettovelo, explaining the reasons for the strike set for April 3. From his account on X, formerly Twitter, Rodolfo Aguiar, secretary general of ATE Nacional, shared the letter and charged against the president. President Milei, as you already know and will be enjoying, because you head a harmful and cruel government, the state workers have already begun to receive thousands of telegrams of dismissals,” he said first, and then assured: “On April 3 we are going to show up at our jobs, making you exclusively responsible for any violent act that we have to regret.” Likewise, Aguiar pointed out that “workers are not afraid” and maintained that “they resist in defense of public policies.” Along these lines, he accused that the president “likes to copy state models,” and completed by arguing a violation of the Constitution in the measure imposed. You and your officials, who talk so much about respecting the law, have decided to break fundamental norms and violate the constitutional right to Stability in Public Employment,” he denounced.
