Six months after the start of the war: Israel withdraws its troops from southern Gaza

After completing its mission in southern Gaza, where thousands of families were left on the brink of famine due to a lack of resources, the Israeli government moved its troops to the Rafah area to proceed with new operations, on the day that marks six months since the Hamas attack on Israeli civilians. Sunday, April 7, the six-month anniversary of the attack that killed more than 1,000 civilians, is a day of commemoration, grief and struggle for Israeli citizens. On that day, the conflict between two states turned into a new war, and the taking of hostages – 130 are still held captive – was the first bastion for the jihadist Islamist group Hamás.La devastation of the Gaza area was the next step in the scale, with military operations that resulted in the death of thousands of Palestinian children. and a disproportionate advance on the territory, motivated by internal rage against the terrorists who lit the flame of hatred six months ago. On Sunday, the Israeli government announced the withdrawal of most of its troops from southern Gaza, where they will leave a single “significant force,” according to official statements. “This is another step in the war effort,” Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Peter Lerner told the network BBC.” The war is not over, it will only end when the hostages return home and when Hamas is over. It’s a decrease in forces, but there are more operations that need to continue. Rafah is clearly a fortress. We need to dismantle Hamas’ capabilities wherever they are,” he added. Far from hinting at an end point in the conflict, the Israeli government’s troop movement is more related to a strategic action to carry out new operations in Rafah. However, a glimmer of hope continues to loom over the possibility of a truce in the midst of the devastating war and, in that sense, both Israel and Hamas announced on Sunday that they sent delegations to Cairo to join the debate on a ceasefire. Six months later, after massive attacks against the Palestinian territory that left more than 30,000 dead and a large percentage of the population starving, of constant suffering for the 130 hostages who are still held captive and still alive – 34 died in the course of the war – and the development of a war that dispels the illusion that the essence of modern societies is different from that of the first peoples, the Gaza area continues to be the scene of a massacre that, once again, falls on the civilian population.
