A month without Loan: the details of the case and its detainees

On June 13, Loan Danilo Peña disappeared in the town of 9 de Julio in Corrientes. Since then, the case has been submerged in a back and forth of constant hypotheses. In addition, there are currently seven detainees, although everything indicates that this number will increase. It all started that Thursday when Loan and her father, José Peña, went to her grandmother Catalina’s house for a family lunch with friends. So far a usual situation, however, then they decided to take a walk to an orange grove and from that moment Corrientes is under the magnifying glass. During these four weeks, the case went through different hypotheses, accusations, statements and arrests. That is why the case seems to be further and further away from being solved. The first arrests were those of Mónica Millapi, Antonio Benítez and Daniel Ramírez, who were arrested for “abandonment of person” by maintaining that Loan was lost and they did not take care of him. A week later, the case continued with the apprehension of María Victoria Caillava, Carlos Pérez and Walter Maciel when the cover gave a surprising twist to “human trafficking.” At that time, the file went to the Federal Justice and fell into the hands of Judge Cristina Elizabeth Pozzer Penzo. From there, connections were made with Paraguay to find out if Loan could be in that country. Later, two weeks after the disappearance of the minor, a new hypothesis gained strength after Laudelina Peña, Loan’s aunt, declared that the former official Caillava and her husband Pérez ran over the child and buried him. However, in the last few hours, the defense lawyer of the now detained said that it was a false testimony and that her client wants to testify again. Even Laudelina’s daughter, Macarena, had said that her mother indicated that because “they had promised her a house and a motorcycle.” However, the vehicle to which Laudelina alluded will be investigated, as well as the cell phones of the seven detainees. In fact, it transpired that Pérez’s phone had many professionally deleted files with photos of minors and pornography. In turn, on Laudelina’s cell phone, they identified 20 calls with her spouse Benítez that Thursday, June 13, and compromising talks with friends. For his part, the father of the minor met in Buenos Aires with Patricia Bullrich, Minister of National Security, and then attended a march at the Obelisk to ask for the appearance alive of Loan.In turn, Fernando Burlando requested various proceedings in the case such as the arrest of Jorge Codazzi (Laudelina’s former lawyer) and Macarena for hindering the case. This is in addition to the fact that he confirmed that he will denounce the Government of Corrientes in the Courts of Comodoro Py for aggravated concealment.
