“The Young Pope” / “The young Pope” is one of the most interesting European series of the last decade. An international co-production directed by award-winning filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino (“Youth”, “Great beauty”) who wondered what would happen if the new Pope is a young and attractive New York Cardinal? and what would happen if this Pope is ultraconservative, smoker inveterate, loathes the press and to the faithful, suffer from messianic delusions and even falls in love with a stranger? It is a provocative series, and photos of the second season in which one sees the actor Jude Law naked seem to be going in the same direction. The ten chapters of the first season, which premiered in 2016, were a success in Europe, where generated expected controversy, notably in England and Italy. The Catholic Church, however, not opined on the series until a year later, the criticism of the official newspaper of the Vatican L’Osservatore Romano daily was surprisingly positive, and wisely sees faith behind the apparent profanity of Sorrentino.
“Although his frivolous treatment of the dogmas of the Catholic faith and its caustic look at the Vatican curia is not exempt from perfidies, not denying that Sorrentino in this attitude coexists with an exhausted admiration towards the Church.”
In the United States and Latin America series was released by high-profile, such as HBO and Fox Premium channels, but did not have the impact that could imagine with acclaimed director and cast. Maybe that happens with the second season, “The new Pope”. Without going into details spoileros, the first year of the series ended with the possibility of the scandalous Lenny Belardo (Pope Pius XIII played by Law) do not follow in his role as Pope. What’s more – Sorrentino called the actor John Malkovich, and this high-profile engagement coupled with the name of the series suggests that the cast will have a renewal.
Law along with Ludivine Sagnier, the spouse of one of his guards which is in love with the first pictures of the filming of the series show the character of Law walking on a beach with only a minimal swimsuit, showing a remarkable physical condition for their 4 6 years (courtesy, perhaps, of the training he had to submit to “Captain Marvel”). Law/Belardo/Pius XIII images it passes under a bridge formed by players of volleyball in a bikini, which would indicate that this is an imaginary sequence – or that Sorrentino is raving increasingly.
