translated from Spanish: National Institute: exseremi of the first Government of Piñera assumes as interim director

Lilí Orell, former Education Officer of the Metropolitan Region during the first Government of Sebastián Piñera, was appointed until March 2020 as interim director of the National Institute, the establishment this year faced with an acute crisis of violence.
Orell will assume his duties from next Monday, September 2, in place of the current rector, Fernando Soto, who ends his term. She is the second woman to take over the management of the establishment in its 206 years of life. The first was Olga Vivanco, who held the position from 1986 to 1990. She will be the 34th director in the Institute’s history.
“We have an important task and together with the school community we will modernize the Institute, make the infrastructure changes and educational program that are much needed. We are going to leave the bitter days behind and focus on a new institute that will continue to shine as the light bulb of the nation,” Mayor Felipe Alessandri said at the presentation.
The new director is Professor of State in Physics and Natural Sciences, Master in Education Management and Management and Master in Education Management and Management in the New Digital Environment of the Autonomous University of Madrid.
During her career, in addition to serving as Seremi of Education of the Metropolitan Region between May 2010 and February 2012, she was director of municipal establishments and in the Municipal Education Directorate of Recoleta, among other activities.
Together with Orell comes a team of teachers formed by Carmen Gloria Sandoval (School Coexistence Coordinator); María Eliana Lagos (Pedagogical Management Coordinator); Patricia Nilo (Pedagogical Management Coordinator) and María Claudia Galdámez (Psychosocial Coordinator).
“Lilí Orell has a long history and a life dedicated to education. We are confident that together with your team and leadership you will promote the process of modernization of the lyceum to be the Institute of 2030 or 2040 and continue to train leaders that are a contribution to the country. She assumes full powers and will work with the entire school community to be involved from the beginning at this new stage,” the building stressed.
Lilí Orell, for her part, said that “taking on as interim director is a great challenge, mainly because a woman arrives again at the National Institute which means a major transformation. We all have to work for a common good, return to the path of history and manage what the future of the Institute means, the process of modernization is key and we have every intention of renewing vows with institutionality, with identity, with quality and leadership. This is the beginning that marks a milestone, because it means the modernization of the emblem of public education of the country”.
