Argentina.- Leandro Villafañe was a prison guard at the Penal de Olmos in Argentina, until October 23, 2013, when an out-of-reach event changed its fate forever. One of the prisoners in the coexistence sector decided to take his own life, a matter that led Leandro to his suffering the consequences, although he was apparently not at fault.
Six months of the internal investigation was available simply, and when he returned to service he was forced to change his place of work, then was arrested for “abandonment of person followed by death” so he had to spend the last five and a half years deprived of his liberty, until on 17 July he was acquitted by the Oral Criminal Court No. 3 of La Plata.Mauro Pérez Ugarte, the prisoner who committed suicide, was also a prison agent. He had been arrested for robbery and on the night of his death was more restless than usual because he had applied to contact his family. Villafañe refused to make that phone call because it was outside the permitted hours. what he never imagined is that his partner would go hang up that same afternoon.
At the time the alarm went off announcing that a serious event had happened, Villafañe was touring the cells on the fifth floor of the prison, about 270 inmates were in charge that night. While in prison for this fact that he was out of reach, son Leandro died of leukemia from which he had been diagnosed when he was in house prison, which is why he once decided to rape his confinement. Villafañe was acquitttded on July 17 of this year and days later asked to return to work.
