“Pain and Glory”, inspired by the life of Almodóvar himself, was described as the most “resplendent and moving” work of the Spanish filmmaker, in the list followed by Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” and “Once Upon a Tim E… in Hollywood,” by Quentin Tarantino, in third place.
In addition, he describes the work of Antonio Banderas, the lead actor, as “the interpretation of his life”, and describes Penelope Cruz, the mother of the central character, as “radiant”.
“‘Pain and Glory’ may be Almodóvar’s most shimmering and moving film, a panorama of vibrant colors and even more intense emotions,” Time magazine said.
At the podium’s doorstep, the prestigious medium places “Marriage Story”, starring Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver and directed by Noah Baumbach, and in fifth position to Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of “Little Women”, in which the Irish Saoirse Saoirse Ronan plays the central role.
