Singapore.- Singapore scientists have invented a disinfectant robot that mimics human gestures to help an overflowing cleaning staff since the start of the coronavirus crisis. The “XDBOT” (Extreme Disinfection Robot) is shaped like a rectangular box mounted on wheels and armed with an articulated arm operated by remote control.
It reaches hard-to-clean places, such as under beds or desk tables. Created by researchers from Nanyang University of Technology (NTU), it also contains a tube to disinfect large surfaces. The robot is targeted from a computer or tablet, reducing the risk to staff of becoming infected by the virus that has killed more than 140,000 people worldwide.” By controlling the new robot remotely, a human operator can precisely handle the disinfection process (…) without any contact with surfaces,” explains Chen I-Ming, an NTU scientist who has led the project. This robot is distinguished from others that are already on the market where it can disinfect objects of various shapes.
