The consortium formed by Operadora Cicsa, of the entrepreneur Carlos Slim, and FCC Construcción won the contract to perform the second leg of the Tren Maya.
The two winning companies will need to develop the executive project, supply materials and build this 235-kilometre stretch from Escárcega to Calkiní in Campeche.
According to the ruling of the National Tourism Development Fund (Fonatur), the winning consortium represented the best value for money for the project and its economic offer was 18 thousand 553 million 738 thousand 338 pesos.

“In qualification criteria, it meets legal and administrative requirements, has the required capacity, technical and financial experience. As for the technical criteria this consortium was the best technical offer in the areas: quality of work, bidder capacity, experience and specialty of the bidder, compliance with contracts and national content and labor,” he stressed.
As set out in the official calendar, work work for Stretch 2 Escárcega-Calkiní will begin on Tuesday, May 12, once authorized by health authorities in compliance with the prevention measures for the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Fonatur emphasized that “the Maya Train is established as one of the most important infrastructure works and a key trigger for employment and development in southeastern Mexico, in the context of measures to mitigate the economic consequences of the pandemic”.
It added that the United Nations Office for Project Services conducted an independent analysis of the proposal review process and agreed in accordance with international standards.
