home Mexico Morena proposes to divide Ecatepec and form a new municipality: “Ciudad Azteca”
Ecatepec.- Legislators of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) proposed on Monday to divide the municipality of Ecatepec, State of Mexico, in two, forming a separate one called Ciudad Azteca.
Deputy Maurilio Hernández, party coordinator at the state congress, and Senator Higinio Martínez revealed that this “citizen initiative” will be promoted in the coming days.
Both politicians agreed that the change needs to be made because it is difficult to govern Ecatepec in several ways, and it would help to resolve the situation currently in this demarcation.
“It is politically, administratively, financially difficult to continue to govern Ecatepec, a municipality where 2.5 million inhabitants live, with the same structure that you have today,” Martínez explained in a press conference.
