Swimmer Daiya Seto, world champion and Olympic medalist, is an icon in Japan. However, his image began to be tarnished by starring in a particular situation: after it was discovered that he was unfaithful to his wife, he was suspended by the Japanese Swimming Federation for the remainder of the year. The story came to light after a local weekly posted photos of the athlete with a woman who was not his wife in a hotel. The swimmer, 26, married and a father, acknowledged his infidelity and accepted the sanction imposed by the Japanese federation, admitting that he had “irresponsible behavior.” In addition, he will not be the captain of the Japanese swimming team at the Tokyo Olympics that were postponed by 2021.
“I believe that my apologies will be to continue swimming and rebuild the trust of my family, who was deeply hurt by my irresponsible behavior,” Seto said through an official statement. For the time being, the world champion in the 400 meters combined singles at the 2013 World Cup and who in the same event hung the bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, will be able to train privately for the next Olympic event.
