With 3,893 cases, 2019 was the most violent year for women in at least 30 years, according to definitive figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
The murders of women accounted for 10.6% of the total homicides recorded last year, an average of 10 cases per day.

Since 2015, the killings of women have continued to increase; Inegi reported in 141 cases more than in 2018, a year that it had also recorded.
The institute reported that homicides are the fifth leading cause of death in the general population, after recording a total of 36,661, 4.9% of the deaths of 2019.
In terms of homicides of men, 32 thousand 530 (88.7%), Inegi reported only 235 fewer murders than in 2018, the year in which the highest number of cases was recorded, since 1990.
