translated from Spanish: Calama, Quillota and Temuco add to municipalities that will not return to face-to-face classes by March 1

In the midst of the debate on the return to face-to-face classes, the Municipalities of Calama, Quillota and Temuco joined the communes that will not reopen the classrooms during March 1.
Let us remember that the Government proposed the reopening of schools, flexibly and voluntarily, by the aforementioned date. The College of Teachers, together with different municipalities, have disputed that “the conditions are not present” for the return of face-to-face teaching.
This was raised by the mayor of Calama, Daniel Augusto, who indicated that “in terms of infrastructure there are no conditions to enter 100% face-to-face, more resources are required to enable each of the lyceums. If circumstances improve we can partially return in a remote mode”, says Meganews.
Quillota’s edil, Luis Mella, planned to return to classes only in Phase 4, in line with what the College of Teachers has raised. “I believe that no commune that is at a stage below 4 could return under these conditions. Stage 4 ensures that we have adequate epidemiological indicators, such as to return to classes,” he said.
“As long as teachers and students are not vaccinated we are not going to start the educational process of 2021 (in person),” said Temuco Mayor Jaime Salinas. The communal authority assured that the decision was taken in conjunction with the teachers’ board.
In this way, Calama, Quillota and Temuco are added to other communes that have shown their refusal to reopen schools. Among them are Antofagasta, Tocopilla, La Florida, Auñoa, Curicó, Maipú, La Reina, among others.
