translated from Spanish: What’s new in gin: betting on innovative, classic flavors that reinvent themselves

Gin has been positioned as an increasingly common drink to drink by Chileans. A market analysis of the company IWSR revealed that since 2011 our country has increased the consumption of this liquor by 67%, recording an annual average of
11% growth.
That’s why classic brands are committed to new aromas and flavors to continue to captivate the public, while also growing domestic production with local and unique ingredients.
Premium gin with a floral touch
Scottish super premium brand Hendrick’s has become one of the world leaders in gin consumption, thanks to its artisanal distillation process, where Holland cucumbers and Bulgarian rose petals are protagonists in this blend of 11 essential ingredients.
For this season the Midsummer Solstice was launched, a limited edition ideal for the summer, which includes the characteristic flavor of Hendrick’s a combination of flowers chosen by the master distiller that makes it even more aromatic and refreshing.
“Being a limited edition, it becomes infallible for gin fans as not only is its liquid extraordinary, but its bottle steals prominence in every collection,” explains Rafael Martinez, product manager Hendrick’s.
Gin from northern Chile

At a time when local brands are increasingly valued, Compañía Pisquera de Chile, a subsidiary of CCU spirits and distillates, ventured and developed its own gin, called Kantal. Made and packaged in the north of the country, it is made with native botanicals such as Arrayán, Rica Rica, Algarrobo, Cedrón and Boldo, which generates a “complex flavor marked by penetrating spicy notes of native forest fruit, ready to enjoy alone, with ice or tonic”, according to the outstanding sommelier Pascual Ibáñez.
The new bet seeks to offer a high quality alternative to increasingly sophisticated, demanding, informed and constantly looking for different proposals.
This product with 43o alcohol, seeks to energize the national gin market.
Beer-based gin
When the closure of the bars and restaurants produced by the pandemic immobilized about 40 thousand liters of beer on tap for the Kilómetro 24.7 brand, the brand joined Destilados Quintal to create Gin Patagonia #1, a distillate based on limited edition beer, which comes from Patagonian lands and seeks to represent the traditions of the area through a selection of local botanists.
“This gin has a commitment to sustainability because it reused an element that was being lost to the pandemic. 40,000 litres of beer overdue in kegs that gave life to a unique distillate. Nothing is lost, everything becomes,” explains Teresa Undurraga, founding partner of Destilados Quintal.
“We distilled beer and studied how hops and citrus notes from KM24.7 varieties imprinted a different character on alcohol compared to barley-only alcohol. The result was surprising in taste and aroma and the bitterness of the beer was blended with the fruit especially when we added orange, rosehip, elderflower and canelo”, explains Undurraga regarding the brewing process.
The appeal of this gin, in addition to the commitment to environmental care and local ingredients Patagonia, is that it manages to maintain and work with aromas and flavors typical of beer.
This transforms it into a Hoppy Gin, a name related to hops by its English name Hops, very aromatic on the nose, where the notes of enebro, orange and hops stand out.
Lightly spiced with canelo, Jamaican pepper and cardamom, in the mouth it opens refreshingly by rosemary and eucalyptus, balanced with a slight fruity sweetness from the calafate and rhubarb.
The berries version of a classic

Bombay launched in late 2020 the Bramble version, a new and creative bet flavored with raspberries and blackberries ideal for making colorful and creative cocktails, with flavors of botanical-only ingredients and 100% natural fruit infusion, without added sugar.
Inspired by the classic Bramble cocktail but with a modern twist, it is the brand’s first fruit-flavored distilled gin.
