The sad news of Sofia Sarkany’s death touched the world of fashion and entertainment, two areas in which the young designer shone through her creations and the clothing brand that bore her name.
The eldest daughter of one of the most recognized families of national design, Sofi maintained a low profile and was only known for her work and art. In fact, news of her death within days of becoming a mom fell like a bucket of cold water as little and nothing was known about the picture of uterine cancer she’s been going through since 2018.
Through the Instagram account of their eponymous brand, the guests of Sofia Sarkany, one of Argentina’s leading footwear brands, chose to remember their friend through an emotional video. With images of the designer in parades, in her studio and with her family they created a video in which a reflection of the young woman of a speech she gave in 2015 during a meeting of young leaders that took place at the Usina del Arte is heard in the background.
“Art is an attitude and that healing attitude. My advice is that no matter what you do as long as you put your heart, mind and soul into it. This phrase from (Nelson) Mandela, which I love, says, ‘You won’t be able to live with real passion if you settle for a life that’s less than you’re able to live,’ he begins.
He continues: “I think that’s what it’s all about, reinventing ourselves, resusing ourselves, always continuing to train us, creating and getting to know each other, because that’s where true gratification comes from and real vital energy is generated. I think our greatest commitment to life is to make it our greatest work of art,” she concludes.
