At least two variants of COVID have been identified in Mexico City: Brazilian and English, Oliva López Arellano, Secretary of Capital Health, reported.
Currently the B.1.617 variant of COVID-19, discovered in India, is monitored, the spread of which is faster and identified in San Luis Potosí.
This variant was detected by the Institute of Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference (Indre) and is the first contagion recorded in Mexico.

The patient is a resident of that entity’s capital and is presumed to have had contact with people coming from the United States.
According to López Arellano, the cases of the Brazilian and English variant are under study, when they were detected they were immediately isolated and are “controlled, monitored”.
It indicated that constant monitoring was carried out to detect variants, mainly those of greatest concern, such as English, South African and Brazilian.
“Variants are common in viruses, they generally vary, so the Ministry of Health classifies them as of concern, of interest and others,” he said.
