CDMX.- This Monday, May 24, the Eighth District Court in Administrative Matters of Mexico City denied the National Agricultural Council (ANC) the arrest of the government decree prohibiting the use of glyphosate and genetically modified maize. The situation led to a response from the ANC, which said there will be significant impacts on the agri-food industry, and families could be affected by price hikes.

Another point the private body touched is that the red light that the government of the Fourth Transformation gave to genetically modified glyphosate and maize is based on “radical interpretations away from science”. In addition, he said that European authorities in the field tested the chemist and determined that its use is safe for human health and the environment, while the Mexican government believes otherwise without the support of research. Finally, the National Agricultural Council assured that banning genetically modified maize will cause food desabre, as well as raw materials for beer, animal feed, beverages and medicines.
