The Day of the Mapuche New Year, We Tripantu, was given he go to the new seal of the Healthy Ancestral Foods program of the Institute of Agricultural Development (Indap) that seeks to rescue, value and bring to the population the traditional products used in the cuisine of the Native Peoples of our country.
“It is no coincidence that today we are Tripantu we may be launching this seal Healthy Ancestral Foods and on this day, which calls us to be reborn and to meet in a different way, we are together with Indap recognizing its work, its history, the values behind it and everything it represents. We believe that this is the way to move forward together in the development of a country that we have to build together,” said The Minister of Agriculture, María Emilia Undurraga.
What is the original seal program?
The Sello Originario program seeks to give more value and visibility both in Chile and to the world about the ancestral food heritage and tradition of the native peoples, expressed in healthy, versatile and sustainable products.
This seal relieves all those products that meet the characteristic of being free of “high in” seals and the requirements to access this are: to be an Indap user; belong to some Native People and produce and sell some healthy product as defined by the Secretariat Chooses to Live Healthy.

The seal
Inspired by the colors of the raw materials, the color of the cultures, the diversity of foods, regions and Native Peoples in Chile, the seal works as an identifier in the different brands and products associated with the Original Seal program.
It considers the possibility of marketing these products in Cencosud, Walmart and SMU supermarkets, regional supermarkets and specialty stores and Indap Farmers’ Markets.
“This seal was a very personal initiative of President Piñera, the idea is to see how we recover, how we make visible the ancestral products that are healthy foods. We have tried to identify products that come from Peasant Family Farming and indigenous peoples and, in addition, are healthy. This seal is part of Indap’s original seal program and what it does is help these products to become visible. For this we will be our peasant markets and also the possibility of retail, we are working with the different supermarket chains so that they can recognize this original seal and incorporate it as an offer in the products in supermarkets”, explained the National Director of Indap, Carlos Recondo.
Finally, Ana Colicheo, from the Rio Quino group, thanked the initiative and stressed that “the help we have received from Indap and the Ministry of Agriculture has been very important to be able to reach Cencosud. We are very happy about that, as it has been a very difficult road, but we have had the support. The key has been in us, realizing that we can and have a good production, put our 100% at work as a family. We produce hydroponic lettuce, chard and spinach, which we deliver to the supermarket which has improved our marketing channels.”
