translated from Spanish: Kidnapping victims among those accused of attacks in Reynosa: relatives

At least two people arrested for the massacre in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, are victims of kidnapping, relatives said.
Relatives of the youths told journalist Denise Maerker that their loved ones were beaten and tortured to plead guilty to kidnapping.

One of the cases is that of 20-year-old Ramiro Licea, kidnapped since the end of April in the middle of the street, and who last week was identified by tamaulipas authorities as allegedly responsible for the multihomicide in Reynosa.

Alfonso Margarito was kidnapped on May 22 and was presented as one of 13 suspected multihomicides of 15 people in Reynosa.

“We already considered him dead and when we see him in the news, it did give us joy, but seeing the news of what they accuse him of is false. He was kidnapped, he is not a kidnapper and less a murderer, they made them take weapons, they grabbed the flyers of the trucks, the doors of the cars and put drugs in their pants,” Herlinda Muñoz, the young man’s mother, told Televisa’s En Punto program.
Ramon, the father of the man arrested for the multihomicide, said the young man was taken from his home on April 24 by about 15 armed men, but he did not file a complaint because he received threats.
“When they were going to pass me with the licensee who was going to take my statement they talked to me on the phone and threatened me not to file the complaint and I gave up out of fear … the day they threatened me they talked to me again for the same thing because they know where I live and that they are watching me. I didn’t do anything anymore, I thought my son had been killed,” he said on Grupo Fórmula’s Atando Cabos program.

Ramón said that after asking the Human Rights Committee in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, for help, they raided his home, so he fears for his family’s life.
The second case is that of Alfonso Margarito Aguilar González, whose relatives reported his abduction on the night of 22 May.
His sister told En Punto that the 27-year-old was beaten by elements of the Special Operations Group (GOPES) to plead guilty.
Prosecutor denies searches and leaves decision to judge
The prosecutor of Tamaulipas, Irving Barrios Mojica, ruled out that the entity had carried out any search against relatives of the detainees and narrated the presentation of the alleged involved in the case.
“As the Prosecutor General’s Office, we received some detainees from a kidnapping event; the GOPES make us their report, their narrative of the facts and present people deprived of their liberty and probable perpetrators of the crime. When they are placed at the disposal of this Prosecutor’s Office, at one point they present themselves as persons deprived of their liberty. With the progress of the first investigations we realized, or so the facts narrated, that it was not a deprivation of liberty, that it was a kidnapping, because they had an intention to do harm,” the prosecutor told Maerker in Atando Cabos.
He maintained that the Public Prosecutor’s Office found sufficient evidence for at least four people to be brought before the authorities for the crime of kidnapping.
“We are told that there are people who had been deprived of their liberty; we found out from the media. We have not done any searches. There is no ministerial search warrant in the homes of the relatives,” he insisted.
In Alonso’s case, the prosecutor said the family members no longer wanted to continue with the complaint. “They file the complaint on May 24 for the events of May 22, and then in June they remove it,” he said.
“That’s the precedent we have. That person was no longer on the list of private people that’s why he immediately did not jump into the system when presented by the security elements,” he said.
Barrios said that on July 1, a judge will decide whether or not the detainees are linked to the trial and whether there were irregularities in the arrest.
