The Zapatista peoples will participate in the Popular Consultation following their customs and customs, with community assemblies, and the result will be sent to organizations of victims of violence, search for disappeared and prisoners, the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN) said in a communique.

They also called on the peoples organized in the National Indigenous Congress-Indigenous Council of Government to participate, following their times and ways, “without losing sight of the victims, and bearing in mind all the murdered brothers and communities that have been victims of the decisions of those above before and now, as well as the long history of spoils, deceptions, mockery and contempt, destruction of territories and disappearance of native languages and cultures.”
Those who have voter credentials – which according to the organization are few – will go to the participation tables to cast their vote.
The EZLN emphasized that the question to be consulted is not about the former presidents, “or not alone,” but about all political actors, such as governors and their cabinets, municipal governments, deputies, senators, and the entire justice apparatus; decentralized agencies, the autonomous, the Army, the Navy, among others.
“It’s also not about judging or convicting anyone. It is about the rights of victims, their right to justice and to the truth. Their right to know why such actions or omissions were decided, by which laws they were supported and who were or are responsible or irresponsible, from the highest to the lowest level. That would be the truth and its consequence would be justice,” the Zapatistas said.
Regarding the temporality of the facts to be clarified that the Popular Consultation contemplates, they pointed out that “when it is put as a period “the past years”, it follows that it includes until December 31, 2020. And if the months of January to July 2021 are “gone”, then too”.

The communique, signed by Deputy Commander Galeano, calls on the “middle class” to participate. “Organize yourself, participate in the so-called Popular Consultation. If you don’t want your feeling to be used by one or the other, don’t go to the box. Shout, scratch, paint, sing, dance, gesture, keep quiet, walk, run, stand still. You decide what and let the victims know.”
