translated from Spanish: Join the fight for a plastic-free future in the oceans

Your change counts and your actions can inspire others. Individuals, entrepreneurs, multi-nationals, educational institutions, governments… we should all do our bit, because the environmental responsibility lies with everyone. We must make strength for one side to improve the planet where we live and infect others to do so. Plastics have taken over the Earth. Their increasing production and use threaten to pollute every corner of the planet, especially the seas, the final destination of many of them. If no action is taken, we will end up with more garbage than fish in our future oceans. Fortunately, faced with this reality, more and more consumers and citizens are committed to the environment and more and more companies are responding to our requests with actions and proposals for the future. Natura, the Brazilian multinational of cosmetics and personal hygiene products, promoted the campaign #LlamadoDelOcéano, to warn about the responsibility we have as consumers that our plastics do not end up in the ocean. With this proposal it invites people to apply the three R’s of ecology: reduce, reuse and recycle. While avoiding the generation of waste is the ideal is the most difficult then reuse, give more uses to a product and squeeze the most out of its usefulness, is the second option. In case of not being able to reduce our consumption or reuse before sending it to the “trash”, recycling is the third option. Separate the plastics, cans, paper and cardboard, glass containers and take them to some recycling point in your neighborhood. From this Thursday 19 until the end of August, as part of its commitment to the planet, the Brazilian company made available in Buenos Aires a “Natura Truck”, recycling and crushing truck, which will travel through different parts of the City to collect recyclable plastics, which will then be donated to cooperatives.

The truth is that to achieve a plastic-free ocean we must first collect everything that is currently already polluting our seas and to contribute to a world with more beauty and less waste, Natura relaunched the feminine and male fragrance Kaiak Ocean with a more sustainable packaging that does not generate plastic in the sea in the future. With this initiative, around 6 tons of recycled plastic will be used, considering the volumes projected for a year, which is equivalent to 3 million water bottle caps, or a row of caps so long as to cross Brazil from north to south. Environmentally friendly features of Kaiak Ocean:
Packaging made with plastics removed from the coast: approximately 50% of the largest plastic piece that makes up the product packaging is made of these materials recovered from the sea.
Bottles made with up to 30% recycled glass: in this way, the brand promotes the recycling chain of materials, helping to prevent it from reaching one of its most common destinations… the ocean or forests.
The plastic that surrounds each perfumery wrapper has been removed to further reduce the use of the material. Now the product box is more resistant and the seal is made with glue. Plastic film, like any other single-use plastic, is only used for a few minutes and individually, but it takes thousands of years to decompose.
100% with organic alcohol, like all Natura perfumery lines.

The fragrance that drives Kaiak since 1996 – with the freshness of seaweed, notes of amber and dark woods – puts light, this year, on one of the most sensitive and alarming issues of the moment: the pollution of the oceans. “There is a genuine search of consumers towards products that materialize causes, with elements, ingredients and materials that reduce their impact and this is where our proposal comes in, Kaiak Ocean is an invitation for those looking for causes or positive impact on their choices, “said Florencia Violini, Marketing Manager of Natura. Small contributions that make a difference and rethinking our consumption is essential when it comes to changing our habits… I chose what you buy with the environment in mind.
