translated from Spanish: Reconstruction of Line 12 begins this week; rehabilitate collapsed section

Even without a final ruling on what caused the collapse of a subway on Metro Line 12 – which left 26 people dead and 106 injured – the government of Mexico City reported that this week work will begin to rebuild the Gold Line, which runs from Tláhuac to Mixcoac.
The head of government of the CDMX, Claudia Sheinbaum, explained that both the elevated, collapsed and underground sections will be rehabilitated; In addition, agreements will be signed with all the companies that participated in its construction.
The work that will begin this week is on topography, and the companies responsible for building Line 12 will participate in the project, the official said.

José Antonio Esteva, Secretary of Works and Services, announced the technical notes prepared by the advisory committee that is integrated, mainly, by structuralists.
The committee of experts recommended the reconstruction of the section that collapsed (ground zero) between the Olivos and Tezonco stations, with three metal beams type drawer and prefabricated floor system.
In the same area and with the prior authorization of the Prosecutor’s Office, the committee will review the twin section and evaluate the possibility of reinforcing or replacing it.

Work will be done on the reinforcement of all the following sections through metal shoring and other actions such as reinforcement of the concrete columns by jacketing with carbon fiber to increase their structural capacity, after local repair and / or injection of cracks.
Esteva Medina said that regarding the elevated section, it was recommended to attend to leaks, desazolvar the gullies, standardize the drainage and replacement of the base material and comply with the maintenance processes.
In addition, there will be a random inspection of welds of the armed locks of the elevated section and, where appropriate, the repair.
On the underground section, they pointed out that no evidence was found to suggest that the tunnel is subject to the risk of structural damage or collapse, neither in the short nor in the long term.
Experts recommended regularly measuring settlements, surface area and deformations in the tunnel to prevent risk situations; reinforcements, desazolve, repair of leaks.
For the reopening of the line, he recommended the releveling and realignment of the tracks.

The collapse of a road in the vicinity of the Olivos station, on May 3, left 26 people dead and 106 injured, as well as the indefinite closure of the entire gold line, the newest and most modern of the STC.
