translated from Spanish: Mayor of Colchane after meeting with Army commander: “They were proposed to improve the treatment of our inhabitants”

The migration crisis has led to the deployment of army personnel to Colchane, a commune that is part of the border with Bolivia. In this context, Mayor Javier García met with the commander of the VI Division, Christián Bolívar, with the aim of improving coexistence with the inhabitants in the midst of a moment of tension in the area.
In this sense, the mayor raised the need to improve the treatment of older adults who move by custom and tradition from Chile to Bolivia, “our obligation as a communal authority is to ensure the interests of our neighbors and above all, of our older adults who are accustomed by tradition and culture to have contact with the town of Pisiga Bolívar. They were asked to improve the treatment of our inhabitants… in addition, training for army personnel in Aymara culture and worldview was proposed in order to improve relations between these sectors.”
For the commander and chief of the Sixth Division of the Army, General Christián Bolívar, the meeting with Mayor García was productive, where issues that are of common interest in relation to the deployment they have on the border and the means they have employed in the work of supporting border control to the carabineros were discussed.
He stated that they talked about some issues of habitability, the tasks they are fulfilling and how to facilitate the work, both of the army and the Colchanina community, in order to give a better situation to what the inhabitants are living today.
“One always has to be available to look for solutions for interaction with the different authorities. That’s where we are today, seeing how we can collaborate and support the work that is being developed by both the mayor and the community he serves,” said the commander.
