Judge maintains preventive detention for Robles, for ‘high’ risk of escape

Judge Ganther Alejandro Villar Ceballos decided to maintain the preventive detention against Rosario Robles, because “a high risk of escape prevails” of the former secretary.
This, despite the fact that Robles Berlanga obtained a definitive injunction against the precautionary measure.
One of the judge’s arguments was that the home guard, requested by the defense, would “provide him with the means to leave the territory.”

He also maintained that the health issues of the former secretary “are not an obstacle for her to remain in prison” and clarified that she can go to the execution judge to request the measures she considers pertinent for this issue.
Before announcing the decision, the judge himself indicated that both the proposal of the Prosecutor’s Office, to maintain preventive detention, and the proposals of the defense, “are suitable to subject the accused to the process.”
Robles’ defense regretted the decision and charged that the judge used arguments that had already been “overcome,” so they will file an appeal.

According to his lawyer, Epigmenio Mendieta, the judge argued an alleged contradiction of the reason for a trip made, and that he did not provide the addresses in which he lived in another time when he was secretary of state.
“Rosario did take the floor, she expressed her dissatisfaction with the decision and asked her to review very carefully that the information that appears in the license does not correspond to the address she rented, which was a very important fact, because they still think that this supposed address corresponds to the address that exists in the license that is false, ” exposed to media after the end of the hearing.

According to Mendieta, Rosario Robles asked the judge to be treated equally.
“She wants due process. He doesn’t intend to go out to attend a fancy restaurant,” he said.

“She wants due process. He does not intend to go out to attend a luxury restaurant,” he said in reference to the former director of Pemex, Emilio Lozoya, who faces his trial in freedom and was photographed on Saturday, October 10, in a restaurant located in the Lomas Virreyes neighborhood, in Mexico City.
Upon arrival at the South Preventive Prison, Rosario Robles’ lawyer said that they seek to apply the guidelines of the sentence to modify the preventive detention.
“It has already been determined that the precautionary measure imposed is excessive, it is disproportionate and also based on information that is false, in such a way that what is appropriate is to change the precautionary measure,” he told the media about the probabilities that Robles was released.

“It has already been determined that the precautionary measure imposed is excessive … what is appropriate is that it be modified,” Epigmenio Mendieta, Robles’ lawyer, said upon arrival.

The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) has an arrest warrant in force against the former official for organized crime and money laundering, which can be executed at any time because it corresponds to a different process.
However, Robles’ defense maintains that so far the FGR has not officially notified them of the existence of another arrest warrant against him and that they only know about this order from the media.
Judge Used Disproportionate Arguments: Robles Family
Valeria Moguel, daughter of Rosario Robles, questioned the judge’s arguments, saying they are disproportionate and criticized the leak of the ruling, which was released before the hearing ended.
“It cannot be that he again draws arguments far from all proportion and all justice. The only thing I ask for is an even floor, we will resort to everything that is necessary so that my mother has the right to carry out her process in freedom,” he said.
