Filo.explains | Who was the petiso orejudo?

El Petiso Orejudo was a young serial killer who is credited with killing four children, seven attempted murders and burning several buildings. His father, Fiore, had serious problems with alcohol, as well as having contracted syphilis and the child was born in poor health. So much so that in his first years of life he was several times on the verge of death from a disease of the digestive system.
In addition, his father beat and verbally abused him. His brother Antonio, on the other hand, was epileptic, and he also beat Cayetano. Was the future criminal born there, in that terrible childhood? He measured 1 meter 51 and had huge ears for his body. The boy spent his childhood on the street, and that would be the scene of his future crimes. He attended several schools, and of all he was expelled for his behavior. The Petiso Orejudo was seen by society as a danger, a marginal son of immigrants who could easily be stigmatized. And he comfortably occupied that role.
In January 1912 the body of Arturo Laurora, who was 13 years old as his victimizer, was discovered. He was beaten, half-naked and with a cord around his neck. Two months later, the Petiso set fire to a five-year-old girl, who also died. Finally, he was arrested in 1914, at the age of 18. He confessed to four murders and several other attempts. Beyond the crimes actually committed by Petiso Orejudo, his case shows how certain aspects of law and science of the early twentieth century worked. Godino was seen as a “morally crazy” person, a “degenerate.” On November 15, 1944, as a result of internal bleeding, Cayetano Santos Godino died in his cell in the Ushuaia prison. He was 48 years old.
