Gabriel Boric addressed in his year-end greeting the conversations that he and his team have carried out with the different political forces that will integrate the future political spectrum. The President-elect said that “what I have said is that we are available to dialogue with all those who are available to make Chile a better country and that certainly includes the parties of the future opposition.”
Before the statements of the standard-bearer of Apruebo Dignidad, the president of the Communist Party (PC), Jorge Teillier, outlined what the dialogue with the right will be like, in a complex parliamentary scenario in which the current government coalition Chile Vamos is positioned, after the defeat of its presidential candidate José Antonio Kast, as opponents.
“It does not mean that we are going to walk hand in hand, no, I want to say that there are points on which we need to agree,” said Teillier, after the traditional conger eel broth with the press, an activity that takes place every January 1 since 1991, making projections of the political year.
First of all, through its Twitter account, the PC shared photographs of the activity and pointed out that “from the traditional caldillo de congrio we are committed to continue fighting tirelessly for the dignity and good living of all! We are going for a 2022 of victories for the peoples of Chile!”
In this way, the president of the political store, Deputy Teillier, offered a press conference, along with other personalities of the PC.
The communist helmsman said that “we have many reasons to be happy, it has been a good year for the people of Chile. First, because it has been consolidating that hopeful awakening of the year 2019, after going through such a hard pandemic.”
“That people has been setting a course, a course of changes, in a process of democratic improvement, in a unitary process in which, apparently, a majority of the country has been inclined to carry out the substantial measures of the government program headed by Gabriel Boric,” he said.
The president of the PC was also consulted about the possible participation of other parties in the government of the President-elect, Gabriel Boric, noting that the collectivity “does not have any veto attitude, on the contrary, we have given our consent to hold opening talks (…) the issue is that it seems to me that the schemes are being accommodated to reality.”
Asked about the possibility of talking with the future opposition or current ruling parties, Teillier indicated that “there are right and there are right, I believe that the most rabid anti-communism was defeated at the polls and defeated widely, there are voices of the right itself that rise up saying that this was the fundamental error of the right.”
“There are already newly elected parliamentarians who are saying that the right has to end this thing of blaming everything on the communists, on everything that happens in the country, because the fault is not with the communists,” Teillier argued.
In that sense, he explained that “with that right if we are also willing to dialogue, we have had links with the right (…) there is no wall that completely separates.”
In his analysis, Teillier expressed that the mistake of the right was to support the candidacy of a winger like José Antonio Kast. He also reiterated – yes – that “there are points on which we need to agree.”
