María Cristina Gajardo and Diego Simpértegui submit to the vote of the Senate to integrate the Supreme Court

The two nominees of President Sebastián Piñera to the Supreme Court, María Cristina Gajardo and Diego Simpértegui, will be voted on in two sessions by the Senate to approve or reject their entry into the body.
Gajardo and Simpértegui are seeking to replace Rosa María Maggi and María Eugenia Sandoval, who have just left the Supreme Court after retiring. 
María Cristina Gajardo is a professor at the University of Chile, specifically the Department of Labor Law and Social Security of the Faculty of Law. The lawyer was a member of the Court of Appeals from 2010 to 2012.
The applicant also holds a degree from the University of Chile, a diploma in Social Security from the Ibero-American Social Security Organization, OISS, Madrid (1989); Master in Tax Planning and Management from the Adolfo Ibáñez University (2005) and Doctor of Law from the University of Chile and University of Seville (2017).
For his part, Simpértegui has a long judicial career in the region of Coquimbo, serving as an official of the Court of Letters of Coquimbo, rapporteur of the Supreme Court of La Serena, judge of the First Court of Letters of La Serena and judge of Guarantee of the same commune. In 2002 he was appointed minister of the Court of Appeals of Concepción and later transferred his function to the court of San Miguel.
The candidate studied law at the University of Concepción and holds a degree from the National University of Loja, Ecuador. He has a Master’s Degree in Labor Law and Social Security from the Adolfo Ibáñez University.
