From Sara Hebe, Duki and Vicentico to L-Ghent, Bizarrap and Pablito Lescano: enhancement of the music of El Marginal

The theme that identifies “El Marginal” is undoubtedly that of Sara Hebe. There is no other. In 2019, after two successful seasons made by Underground Producciones, they decided to include a kind of ending. At that time Duki, flagged by the Argentine trap movement, joined Vicentico and La Bomba de Tiempo to inaugurate the musical closing of the series. Now, the post was taken by L-Ghent, Bizarrap and Pablito Lescano. With the release of the fourth part of this mini series, comes another iconic song that promises to be remembered as the soundtrack of the strip. From Filo.News we propose a value of these key tracks.

The Marginal – Sara Hebe (2016)
The first time Sara Hebe’s “El Marginal” was played as a musical curtain was on Thursday, June 2, 2016, when the homonymous series premiered on Public TV. Once finished, those 13 chapters were incorporated into the Netflix and boom catalog. Hitazo in Latam. This powerful cumbia composed with Ramiro Jota and Flor Linyera gave the Chubutense regional recognition, so much so that even “El Recluso” (“The Inmate” in English), the North American version of the strip, maintained the same vibe for the opening theme.
“I can’t leave / I can’t escape / They see me through my eyes / the desire to leave” is already a classic verse that cannot be missed when starting a chapter. Sara’s naked voice and raw, no-spin bars join Linyera’s irresistible keyboards and Jota’s beat in a combo impossible not to shake.

“Entre Cuatro Paredes” – Duki, Vicentico and La Bomba de Tiempo (2019)
This unthinkable gathering happened in 2019 when Duki had 3 million followers on Instagram, not 8, and “skere” and “devil mode” were expressions that boomers were still trying to decipher. At that time the mainstream trap barely had about two years of life in our country and the fans of its greatest exponent did not see with good eyes his collaboration with Vicentico.” Manga of envious, for me it is an honor to make a theme with him -he said in one of his classic stories of disclaimer- They are the songs that my old people listened to, I also know themes of him, of Los Fabulosos. For me it is an honor. We’re trying to grow, to do something new, to give them something organic and you guys are talking shit.”

Duki and Sebastián Ortega, director, during the recording of the video clip.

The truth is that the song reached the #1 position of YouTube trends within hours of being released and sounds less weird every time it is heard. It is a more Vicentico style than Duki (the newspaper La Opinión Austral described it as “a version of ‘Matador’ in the key of dembow”) and has two elements that make it stand out: the voices and the beat, friend, the beat. The percussion is in charge of the great Time Bomb led by Alejandro Oliva (AKA the father of Wos) who, together with the producer Oro Dembow, mark the rhythm of the bars that a Duki who dares to play with the tones of his voice and an impeccable Vicentico who could not leave without a nod to his hit of ’94 with Los Fabulosos Cadilacs.

“Pinta” – L-Ghent, Bizarrap and Pablito Lescano (2022)
The new closure of “El Marginal” has been brewing, at least, since September 2021, when it was announced that L-Ghent was working on a new musical curtain. When Biza and Pablito joined we don’t know, but the result is definitely up to the task. The classic keyboards of the Damas Gratis adorn the bars of the reference of the Cumbia 420 that, before throwing that first catchy verse, gives a “We also have codes”.  “I have this look because he painted / Visor, glasses / sailed in conjunct” merits not to omit the intro on Netflix of this villarap that includes even the punctuation of “La Danza de los Mirlos”, hitazo of the cumbia villera, and many references to the night, the cap, the respect and the street. The distinctive and those alien touches of sound are given by Bizarrap, who does not miss an opportunity to leave his mark. If this theme will become a classic? We’ll talk when season five premieres.
