At least 20 dead and more than 70 hospitalized for intoxication with adulterated cocaine

At least 20 people died and another 74 remain hospitalized in serious condition after using adulterated cocaine in the party of Hurlingham and other parts of the Buenos Aires conurbation. The patients, of which 18 are on mechanical ventilation, are hospitalized in hospitals in San Martín, Tres de Febrero, Tigre, General Rodríguez, Moreno, Morón, Ituzaingó, Hurlingham, San Isidro and Vicente López.La situation was complicated since yesterday at noon, since more people were admitted to health centers as a result of the consumption of adulterated cocaine. During the afternoon of yesterday, a group of young people attacked a police mobile parked in front of the hospital in Hurlingham.In this framework, the Police carried out a series of raids in the area where the drug would have been sold, with a balance of 14 detainees. Yesterday, buenos Aires Security Minister Sergio Berni asked that those who have bought cocaine in the last 24 hours discard it, since there is a risk that it is adulterated. The substance contained in the drug is still unknown. The victims confirmed so far are between 20 and 50 years old. It was reported that the people are hospitalized in the San Bernardino Hospital in Hurlingham, others in the Papa Francisco health centers (in the same Buenos Aires town) and Bocalandro, in Tres de Febrero, and also in the Eva Perón Hospital in San Martín. the purchase of the drugs was in the Churruca neighborhood of the Tres de Febrero party, in the vicinity of Puerta 8, where the Police proceeded to the kidnapping -in the presence of witnesses- of a wrapper with the substance in question and it is being examined. In addition, a $20 bill folded with the same substance was seized. The investigation was in charge of the Attorney General’s Office of San Martín, where the results of the autopsies of the deceased people and the experts are awaited to know if they all consumed the same substance.
