The brand-new mystery thriller follows a young couple whose idyllic honeymoon is tragically interrupted by a brutal murder. In the wake of this unexpected event, Belgian detective Hercules Poirot’s vacation in Egypt aboard a glamorous steamboat turns into a shocking search for the culprit.

The film transports the audience back to the 1930s, recreating many of the places that served as inspiration for Agatha Christie’s high society mystery novel. The settings in which the story takes place range from a slum to an Egyptian spice market, and of course, the imposing waters of the Nile River. In addition, much of the action takes place aboard the majestic luxury ship S.S. Karnak, built especially for the film on a vehicle test track in England.

After leading “Murder on the Orient Express,” Branagh knew he wanted to tackle another of his favorite Agatha Christie novels in a new film, again honoring the iconic writer’s valuable legacy. The team was fortunate to have two of Christie’s relatives, Mathew Prichard and James Prichard, involved in the production of Agatha Christie’s estate collection. The Prichards were invaluable sources for understanding the author’s attitude toward her book and setting, and the unique cast.
