Pandemic forced 35,000 businesses to close in 2020: Concanaco

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the high insecurity rates, more than 35,000 businesses closed their doors in 2020, reported the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco-Servytur). In a remote press conference, the president of this organization, Héctor Tejeda explained that 4.6 percent of the 780,000 business units that group the chambers affiliated with Concanaco closed two years ago due to issues such as pandemic, insecurity, road blockades and others. During 2020 our chambers report the closure combined with insecurity, pandemic and changes of turn, of 35 thousand companies of the 150 thousand affiliates that we have, these companies have adapted or have definitively closed their doors, “he said. For the tertiary sector, he explained that in numbers, the economic cost in 2020 was around 277 billion pesos, 1.85% of the PIP according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). Regarding 2021, the business leader explained that the country is in a process of full economic recovery after the effects caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, due to the fact that progress is being made in regulatory improvements so that the opening of companies is immediate and with it the recovery is accelerated.
