The territory affected by drought in Sinaloa decreases

Sinaloa.- Thanks to the benefit brought by the drizzles and rains that were presented by the cold front number 30 and 31 of the season in its passage through the country in mid-February, Sinaloa currently has a very important decrease in the percentage of drought that affected the entity. According to the drought monitor in Mexico in its latest report, until the last day of February, it is only one municipality that has moderate drought effects in Sinaloa, an area that represents 1 percent of the total Sinaloan territory, however, 99.9 percent remains abnormally dry. At the beginning of January there were 6 municipalities that had negative effects due to lack of water, and at the beginning of February this figure increased to 8 affected municipalities, specifically Angostura, Badiraguato, Cosalá, Culiacán, Guasave, Mocorito, Salvador Alvarado and Sinaloa de Leyva, according to information from the North Pacific Basin of the National Water Commission (Conagua). As a result of the drought that continued to grow in the entity since before the end of 2021, it was decided to increase the strategies of care of the vital liquid with the suspension of extra volumes of water for irrigation use in second crops.
