AMLO demarcates the Secretary of the Navy from the Ayotzinapa case

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador separated the current Secretary of the Navy, Rafael Ojeda Durán, from the case of the disappearance of the 43 students from Ayotzinapa and the Cocula garbage dump.
In a press conference, the president said that the admiral was in the Acapulco area and that the orders were given from the central offices.
After it was announced that Ojeda Durán was commander in charge of the Eighth Naval Region in Acapulco, Guerrero, during that period, López Obrador accused his adversaries of wanting to make them “look bad.”

“He has no involvement in that matter … the ill-wishers of us want to force it because Admiral Ojeda was head of the Naval Zone in Acapulco… The adversaries want to make us look bad, even if they could blame us for the disappearance of the young people,” he said.

The Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI) revealed, on Monday, that there are videos that show that elements of the Secretariat of the Navy intervened in the Cocula garbage dump, a site that the authorities of the previous government pointed out as the point where the remains of the 43 Ayotzinapa normalistas were incinerated.

López Obrador said that the investigation into the Ayotzinapa case is not yet over and that the statements of the sailors seen in the videos of the Cocula garbage dump are continuing, as well as the superior commanders, who were already in retirement.
He indicated that the decisions were made at the central level and that the Secretariat of the Navy and the Ministry of Defense have intelligence agencies for special tasks.
Yesterday, parents of the Ayotzinapa students demanded that the federal government that after three years there are not enough results in the investigation and asked that it look for legal ways for former President Enrique Peña Nieto to be investigated, to determine how much he had to do with the disappearance of their children.
In addition, they requested to open an investigation folder against the Army.
On the subject, the president said that it will be the prosecutor’s office specialized in the case who will determine how far the investigation goes; although he indicated that it is very difficult for a president not to know about such delicate matters.
