The 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival arrives, which will take place from May 17 to 28, with a promising and ambitious program that culminated with the time of reservation and mystery, in the last hours. It was the president Pierre Lescure, and the general delegate of the festival, Thierry Frémaux who were in charge of announcing the list of the 46 films in total, of which 18 will be part of the official competition.
The Official Selection of the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival
Renowned and recognized filmmakers such as David Cronenberg (“The Fly”), brothers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne (“Young Ahmed”), Claire Denis (“High Life”), James Gray (“Ad Astra: Towards the Stars”), Hirokazu Kore-eda (“A Family Affair”), Cristian Mungiu (“4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days”), Ruben Ostlund (“The Square”), Kelly Reichardt (“First Cow”) and Park Chan-wook (“Oldboy”), Jerzy Skolimowski (“Clandestine Work”), they will go for the Palme d’Or, in addition to presenting their films.
Another of the expected moments will be the arrival of the great tank that is “Top Gun: Maverick”, with Tom Cruise at the head and directed by Joseph Kosinski, who in turn had been postponing its premiere due to the outbreak of the pandemic. The expectation also revolved around a version that gained strength in recent times: that the renowned filmmaker David Lynch (“Twin Peaks”, “Dune”) was going to present a new film that he would have shot in secret, with the performance of Laura Dern. However, it was denied by the director.
