Coronavirus in Argentina: Covid cases increased for the second week

Covid cases increased in Argentina, for the second week. The positives corresponding to the period of days between April 24 and 30 was on the rise compared to the previous one, although in a very slight way. This was reported to Télam by specialists who analyzed the data published yesterday by the Ministry of Health of the Nation, while specifying that “people hospitalized in intensive care and deceased continue to decrease.”

“If we sort the cases by date of onset of symptoms (FIS), which is the best way to see the evolution, what is observed is that this year after the peak of reports that we had between January 9 and 15, the reported cases began to decrease until the second week of April and in the last two weeks they began to increase slightly, ” Said the physicist and researcher of conicet, Jorge Aliaga, in statements to the news agency.
In this context, during the week of April 10 to 16, the average number of weekly cases reported ordered by date of onset of symptoms was 662, the week from 17 to 23 went to 854 and that of April 24 to 30 to 878; according to the graphs that Aliaga elaborates based on official information.” Sorting the data by FIS is not the problem of the load that is delayed but it takes a few days for the bulk of cases to appear, so it is likely that this number from last week will continue to rise, “he explained. The situation in CABA
In the City of Buenos Aires the rise in cases was clear in recent weeks, accompanied by the increase in positivity (confirmed on testing), which in the last week reached 13.4%.” If we order the numbers of CABA by date of onset of symptoms, last week (from April 24 to 30) there were about 382 cases, almost double what was reported a month ago, even with the change of criteria in the test, “reported Aliaga, who is also former dean of the Faculty of Exact of the UBA and current secretary of Planning and Institutional Evaluation of the National University of Hurlingham.
The Ministry of Health of the Nation implemented since April 18, a new transition strategy to “integrate the surveillance of Covid-19 to that of acute respiratory diseases of presumed viral origin.”

What does it consist of? Diagnosis will be prioritized in people with respiratory diseases who belong to the following groups:
over 50 years of age and with risk conditions;
special populations that reside, work or attend areas that, due to their characteristics, present a greater risk of transmission or generation of outbreaks.

“Those with a history of travel in the last 14 days to a region where a variant of interest or concern is circulating will also be swabbed; people with severe illness (hospitalized); and deceased,” according to the strategy. Possible new increase in AMBA
“It is likely that there will be a slight increase since April 15 in the rest of the jurisdictions that make up the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA) but we must wait to confirm it,” said Aliaga.However, it should be noted that the average number of people with Covid hospitalized in Intensive Care Units continues to fall without interruptions since the last week of January and last week (between April 24 and 30) reached 367.
