9 police officers arrested linked to murder of Coyomeapan residents

For the violent events that occurred on May 9 in Coyomeapan, Puebla, where three people died, including a child under 15 years of age, nine police officers were arrested.
The People’s Prosecutor’s Office reported that an arrest warrant was executed against the State agents for their probable participation in the commission of the crimes of qualified homicide, attempted homicide, crimes committed against the prosecution and administration of justice and damage to the property of others.
The elements investigated and made available are: Alberto N. alias “Campos” of 24 years of age; Carlos N., 26; Barnabas N., 22; Jose Javier N., 26; Luis Antonio N., 33; Jesus N. alias “El Chino,” 26; Moisés N., 23 years old; Jonathan Ivan N., 25, and Abdo Israel N., 31.

The governor of the state of Puebla, Miguel Barbosa, said that in his administration no one is covered up or protected and spoke in favor of the Ministry of Public Security reviewing the behavior and improving the training of state police.
“Maybe if we were to check the police of all the municipalities, the municipalities would be left without police. It is very complex, but progress is being made in training,” he said.

What happened? 
The confrontation between residents and police in Coyomeapan left three people dead, a balance that the puebla government first denied, and two days later acknowledged, amid contradictions about what happened.

The indigenous resistance movement Unity for Coyomeapan accused that on May 9, at the junction of Zoquitlán to Coyomeapan, the police closed the way to the vehicles where the leaders of the indigenous movement that have taken the municipal seat were traveling and there the attack began.
While the Secretary of Public Security, Daniel Cruz Luna, said that the police went to the place after a person alerted about a red van where armed people were coming; He said that that day there was an attack against state police by a group of men carrying weapons of different types and calibers.
The Secretariat of Public Security of Puebla assured that there were no deaths, but seven injured inhabitants and that it was the civilians who began the aggression.
