Minsal reports third case of monkeypox in Chile: it is close contact of the first infected in the country

The Ministry of Health (Minsal) confirmed the third case of monkeypox in Chile. It was detected by the Institute of Public Health (ISP) by PCR analysis.
According to the Minsal in a statement, it is an adult from the Metropolitan region and corresponds to a close contact of the first confirmed case in the country.

“The case was detected in the contact study carried out by the Regional Health Authority, an entity that is carrying out the respective control actions, applying the surveillance protocol established by the Ministry of Health,” the ministry said.
“The person is in good health, without complications and fulfilling a period of isolation,” they added.
Recall that the first case in the country was reported on Friday, detected in the MRI. The second case was reported on Monday, in the region of La Araucanía. Both had a history of recent trips to Europe.
Symptoms and recommendations
According to the Minsal website, the symptoms of monkeypox are as follows:

Acute rash.
Headache.
Sudden onset of fever greater than 38.5 °.
Muscle pain.
Back pain.
Feeling exhausted.
Swollen or swollen lymph nodes.

The disease can be transmitted by contact or indirectly with blood, body fluids, skin lesions or mucous membranes of infected animals.
Human transmission can occur by direct contact with skin lesions or exhaled droplets from an infected person, or with objects recently contaminated with the patient’s fluids (such as towels or sheets).

The average incubation period can range from six to 13 days with ranges from five to 21 days. There is no evidence that the monkeypox virus is transmitted sexually.
Minsal recommends that people consult a doctor in case they have traveled abroad and have had close skin-to-skin contact, including sexual intercourse, and present: skin lesions of sudden onset without other explanation, with one or more symptoms such as fever, swollen ganglia, muscle or back pain and decay.
