Government expropriates 1 million 093 thousand square meters for Mayan Train

The government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced on Monday the expropriation of 1 million 093 thousand 118.93 square meters of land in Quintana Roo, to allocate those spaces to works of the Mayan Train, one of the president’s great infrastructure projects.
The expropriation was disseminated by a decree published in the evening edition of the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF).
The decree details that the land corresponds to 36 polygons located in four municipalities of Quintana Roo: Benito Juárez (Cancun), Puerto Morelos, Solidaridad and Tulum.

According to the government, works will be carried out there on sections 5 North and 5 South of the Mayan Train.
“The expropriation includes the constructions and facilities that are on the land itself and that are part of it,” the decree states.
“The Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu) will proceed to the immediate occupation of the assets subject to this expropriation,” he adds.

To cover the compensation resulting from this decree, the Trust of the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism, Fonatur Tren Maya and Sedatu will coordinate with the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) to make the corresponding payments.
Affected persons may challenge the amount of compensation.
The Mayan Train is one of the great projects of the sexennium. President López Obrador assures that he will bring development to the southeast, although citizens, specialists and civil organizations warn that it will have a strong environmental, historical and archaeological impact on the route where the route is planned.
