Constitutional plebiscite: Andrés Tagle affirms that the closure of polling stations cannot occur if there are “voters in a position to vote”

The president of the Board of Directors of the Electoral Service (Servel), Andrés Tagle, met this day with the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, and his ministers who will have a coordinating role in the plebiscite of September 4 at the Palacio de La Moneda to analyze the measures that will be taken so that citizens come to exercise their vote.
After the meeting, all those present at the meeting sympathized with the media to deliver information on what will be the constitutional plebiscite. At that time, Tagle warned that no polling station “can close as long as there are voters in a position to vote.”

“This is a simple operational choice, because it’s a quick vote. We estimate that the 400 people who will have the table can vote within a period of no more than six hours, six and a half hours. Therefore, the table will be open 10 (hours), so we should have enough slack to attend to the entire padrón, “he added.
In this line, he said that “we are not going to estimate levels of participation, it would be pure speculation, we do have desires, because our function is to encourage participation, and I hope that the figure of last year in December will be exceeded, anyway. The figure of the 13 million (people) who are consulting (their voter data) is encouraging.”
On the other hand, the president of the Board of Directors of servel, recommended to consult their electoral data again, although he pointed out that during the next week messages will be sent to all cell phones in the country, to verify their premises and voting stations, according to Emol.
He also added that “the voting hours are until 6 p.m., our instructions published in the Official Gazette indicate that all premises have to be open after 6 p.m., they cannot be closed.”
“People who are standing in lines outside have to go inside so that the table shows the demand of people who want to vote and the tables cannot close as long as there are voters ready to vote,” he said.
