There are 788 cases of monkeypox in Mexico; an increase of 56% in one week

Cases of monkeypox in the country have increased 56% in a week, going from 504 to 788 infections, according to the Ministry of Health.
With this, in Mexico 284 more infections were registered, which are reported in 28 entities.
The Weekly Technical Report of Epidemiological Surveillance of the secretariat indicates that so far no death from this disease has been reported.

He explained that one thousand 678 people were identified who meet the operational definition of probable case of monkeypox, of which 788 were confirmed by the Institute of Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference.
In addition, there are 294 under study and 596 discarded by laboratory test.

The entities with the highest number of infections are: Mexico City, 442 cases; Jalisco, 127; State of Mexico, 51; Yucatan, 49 and Quintana Roo, 19.
Of the total number of confirmed cases, 98 per cent were men and 2 per cent were women; 44.4% of people are between 30 and 39 years old, that is, 350 of the 788 confirmed.
On the case of a person who died of septic shock, acquired pneumonia, HIV and who tested positive for monkeypox, the secretariat reported that the case remains under analysis to define if there is a cause attributable to monkeypox.
Monkeypox is transmitted by direct contact with the secretions of a sick person through mucous membranes, skin lesions, respiratory droplets, and objects contaminated with body fluids.
The condition lasts on average 21 days and is prevented by avoiding direct physical contact with sick people.

The secretariat reported that some practices that may increase the risk of becoming infected are those of having sex with strangers, dark rooms or sex parties, this, due to close contact between people during these activities.
