Guillermo Coria: “As long as we have chances we will fight”

The captain of the Argentine Davis Cup team, Guillermo Coria, spoke today about the defeat in the series against Sweden, for the first day of group A of the Finals of the contest, and advanced what will be the clash against Italy, to be played this Friday. We are strong, as long as we have chances we will fight. From here we are going to leave on Saturday, looking into each other’s eyes because we gave the maximum, the best. Afterwards, you can win or lose. We have to leave with our heads held high that we leave everything on the court,” Coria said in a hand-to-hand with TyC Sports.

Regarding the loss to Sweden, the former tennis player emphasized that in the singles they were going to meet “two solid players, who have been obtaining good results in recent tournaments” and that “they are matches where there are several points, opportunities that fall more on the other side than on ours.” As for Diego Schwartzman’s fall to Mikael Ymer, Coria analyzed: “Already starting 0-1 is difficult. He met a player who immediately got into the game and, when he had the opportunity, he never let up. It was very even. He pulled in important moments.” In the doubles, they lifted a set down. It could have happened on the single as well. It went well. Once they grabbed the match, they didn’t let go anymore. They make us stay alive with this format, which is long,” said the captain about the triumph of the duo formed by Horacio Zeballos and Máximo González. Finally, the “Magician” anticipated what will be the duel between Argentina and Italy on Friday: “We are going to face a team with all its people, with players trained to fight and win. We have everything planned, everything in the lead. We are convinced. We are going through Italy. If not, we still have chances. Croatia is far from it. We’re going to see tomorrow and Thursday. We continue to work hard to stand.”
