Swiss tennis player Roger Federer confirmed that his last match will be doubles and he will play it at the Laver Cup in London.
While it is not yet known who his partner will be, it is expected that it will be with Rafale Nadal that they play the match this Friday. When asked about this possibility, Federer indicated that he would love to.
“It could be a unique situation if it happened. For all that we have fought, for which we have respected each other. We got along very well, the race we both had… It’s a great message for sport, not just tennis. It would be a very special moment,” he added.
The Swiss who announced last week his retirement from professional tennis tournaments, said in a press conference on Wednesday that he is not available for singles, due to knee problems but that he will play the doubles as a goodbye.
“I know my limitations and that’s why I asked Borg if it’s okay if I can only play a doubles on Friday night. Matteo Berrettini will play on Saturday for me. Borg said he’s fine, he’s talked to John McEnroe and the ATP and they say he’s fine,” Federer said because there is mandatory to play the singles to participate in doubles matches.
He also expressed being nervous for his last game because “I haven’t played for a long time and I hope to be competitive.”
