COP27 in Egypt: around 90 heads of state confirmed their presence at the climate summit

Some 90 heads of state have confirmed their attendance at the COP27 climate negotiations to be held in November in Egypt, where they will address issues such as the energy transition and food security, an official of the organization said on Monday.
“We have received a large number of confirmations from all over the world, I think the last count was from about 90 heads of state,” said the special representative of the COP27 presidency, Wael Aboulmagd, without mentioning countries.
Egypt replaces the Uk as chair of the UN climate negotiations, and will host the Talks from 6 to 18 November in Sharm el-Sheikh on the Red Sea.
The themes of the leaders’ roundtables to be held on November 7 and 8 will include the development of green hydrogen, water and food security, achieving a just energy transition to renewable energy and vulnerable communities, Aboulmagd explained.
Egypt is working to include “loss and damage” in the summit’s formal agenda, which would be compensation to climate-vulnerable countries that are already suffering the consequences of extreme weather events.
At last year’s COP26 in Glasgow, the United States and the European Union rejected calls for a fund to offset such losses.
