Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky questioned which side Latin American Independence heroes would be on in the war between Ukraine and Russia during a speech issued at the OAS General Assembly.
Among the national heroes of Independence he named, he made reference to the priest Miguel Hidalgo, in Mexico.
“Go back to the pages of the history of the American continent and ask yourself: Which side Would Simon Bolivar be on in the war that Russia unleashed against Ukraine? Who would José de San Martín have supported? Who would Miguel Hidalgo sympathize with?” he asked in a recorded video, which was presented at the 52nd OAS General Assembly.

After the questions, Zelensky replied: “I think they would not help someone who is only plundering a smaller country, as the colonizers did at one time.”
The president of Ukraine asked for support from the American countries to bring peace faster to their people, asked them to condemn the Russian invasion and join the sanctions against Moscow.

He said Russia deliberately brings different countries to the brink of starvation, through an artificial food crisis, and pushes people into poverty with prices and the energy crisis.

AMLO criticizes zelensky being proposed for Nobel
The statements are issued, after this Wednesday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador criticized the members of the European Parliament for proposing the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, to obtain the Nobel Peace Prize.
“With all due respect from the European Parliament, proposing as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize the president of Ukraine, regardless of whether we participate in favor of one or the other, how is one of the actors in the conflict of the war going to receive the Nobel Peace Prize?” he questioned.
Members of the European Parliament have called for the Nobel Peace Prize committee to recognize President Volodymyr Zelensky and the Ukrainian people for their resistance to the Russian invasion.
The OAS already called in March for an end to possible “war crimes” in Ukraine and in April suspended Russia as a permanent observer.
