Follows the departure of “historical” DC: Claudio Orrego puts an end to his militancy, after 33 years

As his close friends had anticipated a few days ago, the Governor of the Metropolitan Region, Claudio Orrego, officially announced his resignation from the Christian Democracy (DC), after 33 years of militancy.
The departure of the regional governor from the DC comes after the resignation of former minister René Cortázar, who stepped aside after the mayor of La Granja, Felipe Delpin, left the presidency of the Falangist store.
On that occasion, those close to Orrego pointed out that “he has been disaffected from the DC” for about two years, during which time he has not participated in meetings, assemblies or in official calls made by the community.
Said and done. Claudio Orrego issued a letter in which he said that “I have had to see how our internal coexistence was destroyed.”

“Our party ‘community’ simply became unrecognizable and I would even say non-existent. Little remains that fraternal spirit to which my father, Claudio Orrego Vicuña, dedicated that beautiful poem ‘The Comrades’ in 1975. From the debate of ideas we move to personal disqualification, from legitimate ideological differences to irreconcilable rival groups, from the necessary competition to a fratricidal war, from loyalty to disloyalty and open betrayal,” Orrego began by saying in the letter.
“I am one of those who tried to change this reality from the different responsibilities that corresponded to me, both inside and outside the party, and I feel that we could not reverse it. By the way, I respect very much those who keep trying to change this from within, with as much generosity as courage. I have already disaffected myself and I do not want to continue investing the energies that I have left in an environment where I no longer feel that a community spirit and minimum respect that is needed to do politics together is lived,” the governor added.
In any case, Claudio Orrego will continue in politics. “It is my vocation of the soul and to which I hope to dedicate the remaining years of my life. Our country is going through very difficult times, and they are going to demand from us a great deal of patriotism and commitment. Maybe as big as the one we gave in the times of the dictatorship,” he said.
The head of the Regional Government of the RM expressed that “this has been a sad decision, but also very thoughtful” and thanked “all my comrades for everything shared, everything learned, and everything done together by our Chile.”

“For me it was an honor to represent them in so many electoral battles. I sincerely hope to continue working together to enlarge our country, even if I no longer wear the shirt with the red arrow,” he concluded.
