Erick Found Guilty of Femicide

After two and a half years, Erick Francisco is found guilty of the crime of femicide against Ingrid Escamilla, as determined by the judge of the Unitary Trial Court of the Judiciary, Israel Pérez Cuevas, at the end of the ruling hearing, which was held in the East Prison of Mexico City.
The legal advisor of the family of Ingrid Escamilla, Javier Gallardo, reported that the judge finally issued the ruling where he determines the guilt in the crime of femicide. He added that the individualization of the sentence will be carried out next Monday, October 17 at 3:30 p.m.
“The judge was very emphatic. Yes, the criminal act was accredited, there was a crime, there was the participation of this person and for those circumstances he was found guilty. Finally we are happy and satisfied that this has been the case,” Gallardo said.

He added that both the defense and the family are confident that the highest penalty will be handed down. “It’s what we’re looking for.” In addition, he pointed out that when Erick Francisco testified, he confessed to having committed femicide.
“He exercised his right to testify; he was a little sparing in his statement, but thanks to questions from the Prosecutor’s Office and us his advisers, he somehow confessed on some occasions that he had killed his wife,” Gallardo said.

Mrs. Antelma, mother of Ingrid Escamilla, said that after a long time and so much wear and tear in the criminal process she is a little calm. “Being convicted gives us some peace of mind,” he said.
Yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, October 12, all the allegations were vented. The defense of the family of Ingrid Escamilla presented 43 pieces of evidence to show that on February 9, 2020, the then sentimental couple murdered the 25-year-old in their home.
During the criminal process, which lasted two and a half years, 26 procedural days were held in the three stages: initial, intermediate and oral trial.

The family awaits the maximum sentence of 70 years in prison, since Ingrid’s femicide committed several aggravating factors. In addition, Erick Francisco was arrested moments after the murder. Even when police entered the patrol car he was bloodied.
Days after the crime, photographs of the young woman’s lifeless body were leaked and published by some media outlets.
The demand by feminist collectives and activists led to the approval of reforms to the Federal Criminal Code, known as the Ingrid Law, which punishes officials for disseminating images or information related to the victims or investigation.

On September 5, the ruling hearing was scheduled, however, it was postponed to October 12, because the judge considered that there were some technical incidents.
