Twitter will not reinstate banned users without a “clear process”

Banned accounts won’t be able to return to Twitter until the platform has “a clear process for doing so,” Elon Musk tweeted Wednesday, saying creating the process would take at least a few more weeks.
The new deadline means that former US President Donald Trump will not return in time for the November 8 legislative elections.
Twitter users, advertisers and their own employees have been watching for signs of what Musk will do in his first week as owner of the social network.
Tesla’s chief executive had previously said Twitter should not permanently ban users and would reverse the ban on Trump, who was suspended for risk of further incitement to violence following riots at the U.S. Capitol last year.
Musk’s tweets come after he had a conference call with several civil rights organizations, including Color of Change, the Anti-Defamation League and the NAACP.
During the conversation, Musk pledged to uphold Twitter’s content moderation policies and enforce them to ensure election integrity, Color of Change President Rashad Robinson said.
Musk also reiterated in his tweet that the app will create a content moderation council made up of representatives with “very divergent views.”
In addition, the billionaire said he would like civil society groups to join the council, Robinson said, adding that discussions were still at an early stage and that “actions will speak louder than words.”

“The issues discussed at this meeting were just the tip of the iceberg,” he said.
