The SEP suspends extracurricular activities at Williams School

The Ministry of Public Education (SEP), through the Federal Education Authority in Mexico City (AEFCM), reported Friday that it decided to suspend extracurricular activities at the Williams School headquarters in San Jerónimo and Ajusco.
This measure is given in order for the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City (FGJCDMX) to continue with the investigation into the death of six-year-old student Abner Leonel, which occurred on November 7.
The agency said in a statement that this administrative sanctioning process will be in force at least until next Wednesday, November 16, in order to facilitate the necessary proceedings by the prosecutor’s office and the AEFCM itself.

Abner Leonel drowned during a swimming lesson at the Williams School headquarters located in San Jerónimo, south of Mexico City.

In a video that was published on social networks, Abner Leonel’s father reported that the school called the family on the morning of November 7 to let them know that his son was in serious condition and that the campus authorities were going to transfer him to the hospital and were only waiting for the ambulance.

She said that the doctor who treated her son admitted him to the hospital without vital signs and that there they received him to “practice the corresponding resuscitation.”
The capital prosecutor’s office, meanwhile, has already initiated an investigation folder for the possible crime of culpable homicide for other causes.
The case of Abner Leonel’s death has generated outrage throughout the week, as well as some protests from parents on the premises of Williams School, a private institution.
