After an extensive day of negotiation, parties have not yet reached a constitutional agreement: they will meet again on Friday

After an extensive day of negotiations, the parties that are in talks to continue with the constituent process still do not reach an agreement. This was stated by the president of the Senate, Álvaro Elizalde (PS) -who, together with the helmsman of the Chamber of Deputies, Vlado Mirosevic (PL), heads the dialogues-, on Wednesday night.
The helmsman of the Senate expressed a “moderate” optimism after the meeting between the parties – which began at about 2:00 p.m. – but pointed out that the obstacle remains – as in past meetings – in the drafting mechanism of the new Constitution. In turn, he said that the parties will resume negotiations on Friday.

Point of divergence
The ruling party insists that the body that drafts the new Magna Carta be 100% elected, while the opposition proposes a mixed body (made up of experts appointed by Congress and elected persons).
On Wednesday, Senator Ximena Rincón (Democratic collective) refloated an old proposal of National Renewal (RN): a body of 50 members, but all elected.
However, the idea did not attract transversal support: RN and Amarillos por Chile resisted supporting it.
